A Winter Tire

I’ll level with you guys. I’m tired.

The posts here have become sporadic of late because if I’m not trying to accomplish a dozen different tasks, then I’m generally exhausted after having accomplished a dozen different tasks.

In those rare moments when I’m not adhered to my work laptop and herding cats/spinning plates for various corporate projects, I’m grocery shopping, post office wrangling, firewood carrying, chicken coop tarping, gift wrapping, financial planning, woodstove tending, snow shoveling, chili cooking, appointment booking, and autism parenting… And those just so far this week.

I think what’s finally pushed me over the proverbial edge is that we’ve just had 2 bullying incidents, in as many days, at Daphne’s school. Both were done by the same child whom we’d already enacted a safety plan against last year. (Apparently he cannot help himself from being cruel to her.)
And so I’ve been in nightly calls with school administration, as well as in contact with the State of Vermont, about resolutions to this and voicing concerns over current policies.
Now Jen and I could never be classified as “militant” or “over-the-top” SpEd parents, but our accommodating and laissez-faire attitude disintegrates in a flash (of white-hot anger) when it comes to our daughter’s safety and happiness in school.

Fortunately there’s some respite on the horizon.

My last day of work is tomorrow before I’m off for nearly 2 weeks.
And Daphne has just 1.5 more days before she’s out of school for the same amount of time. And while her being at home all day certainly comes with its own set of very significant challenges, at least her mother and I aren’t having to worry about whether some little…

No, I’m going to be forgiving here.

Some little child…is being cruel to her.

Also, as is the custom, I’m going to take time off from blogging over the holidays as well. And so there won’t be a whole lot in the way of updating here after this week.

All part of trying to slow things down here for the winter. Even when said things laugh maniacally at my attempts to force them to do so.

I need some incense and Sigur Rós.
