Late post today, but I’ve been working on the third (of four) phase of a large work project so I’ve been rather pressed for time.
Okay! So the line in the sandy grit has been drawn, and the chickys now have their launch date.

Yes, on Monday of next week, they will take their rightful place among the flock and will leave the confines of their Tupperware bin in the mudroom.
And it’s about damn time. Because it’s getting quite smelly in there…
The reason we haven’t moved on this sooner is that we’ve had a bit of a cold snap the past few days. It’s been really damp with temps in the low 40’s during the day.

And since they’re only…actually, hang on. Let me get the exact date from whatever post that was…
September 6th. So that means they’re approaching 6 weeks old this week. Yep. It’s time. Particularly so given what the rest of the week will look like.

That’s about as good as the NEK is going to get in the middle of October, so that’ll have to do for their transition to coop livin’.
Now if we can just convince the other girls to be nice to them. I’m told the key is to sneak them into the coop in the middle of the night, when the rest of the flock is asleep. Now I’d be lying if I said I was 100% on board with that being the best way to integrate them, but in doing so I would be going against The Wisdom of the Internet.
I don’t really have a suggestion as to the correct strategy, either…so I guess that’s going to have to do.
Hopefully since there are 4 new chicks and 3 existing hens in the flock, the squabbling will be kept to just a few days of chicken-on-chicken violence while they work out their new pecking order.

See you tomorrow.
