Yes…they have arrived.

But let’s back up a bit.
When Daph came in our room this morning she immediately went for my phone and wanted to listen to music. (Stay Alive by José González is her jam right now.) It wasn’t until later, after she’d had her breakfast, that I noticed I’d gotten a voicemail at 6am and rightly assumed it was from our local post office.
So Jen and I both dropped Daphne off at school so afterward we could go directly to pick up the chicks and Jen could hold the box on the way home.
As I mentioned yesterday, we were a little worried that we were going to lose one of the three babies in transit. They were born almost 48 hours ago and all they’d known since is the jostling confines of that box as it bounced its way from Ohio to Vermont.
But, as you can see above, they did make their way home. And were were reassured by the amount of peeping coming from the box. Clearly there were multiple chicks in there…

And here, everyone, are our three new baby… Uh… Three…

Four. They sent four of them…

We glanced at the shipping manifest and it appears that they routinely send a bonus chick in case one of the others doesn’t survive the trip. But odds are good that the “bonus chick” here, whichever one of them it is, is actually a rooster.
Also there was barely room on the roost for six chickens…so one of these girls is going to end up sleeping on the ground.

But Jen moved all the chicks into the brooder…

And dunked their beaks into the waterer bowl so they’d know where to find it.
And I’m pleased to report that, as of this afternoon, they’re all in there peeping & pooping (concurrently or consecutively) and are quite happy about it.

See you Monday.
