Okay it’s a bit of a stretch to get from there to “Silmarillion.” This whole Tolkien theme has clearly run its course.

Yes, it appears we’re going to get our second serving of leftover gulf soup up here. The rain is supposed to begin tonight and run into Saturday morning.

Who knew I’d leave Houston only to have to deal with multiple hurricanes and flooding…in Vermont?

So we’ve done the usual minor Gulf storm prep errands today. Namely, filling the car with gas, hitting the grocery store for some easy meals/bottled water, charging all our devices, etc.

To be honest I wouldn’t be giving this little system a second thought if my neighbors hadn’t built a damn trench that takes all the rainwater that would normally flow down into the river (like it’s supposed to) and instead redirects it into my field.

In fact, I did a walk along said trench this morning and it’s already had an impressive amount of erosion, creating an even deeper ditch, which will undoubtedly bring more (and faster moving), water.

I really am trying to be neighborly, to be helpful, to do what I can to take care of the people around me and to generally keep a sense of humor about all this…

But that altruistic attitude will fade lightning quick the moment floodwater starts filling up my basement.

What I need is for the town to get out here and put our road back the way it was before things go pear-shaped and before anyone gets damaged/resentful.

Speaking of neighbors, I also wonder what Ol’ Chuck is going to do about all this. I mean, his tunnels are undoubtedly going to flood…which will compromise key points of his sprawling infrastructure.
