Apparatus Status

So Daphne did, in fact, make it to her first gymnastics session at the local gym in St. Johnsbury yesterday. It was during “open gym” time, so she got to play on all their apparatuses…ses on her own terms.

Sadly I was stuck home at work for this little sojourn, but Jen got pictures of all Daph’s various activities.

First, she rode around on one of those horrible little torture devices butt-scooter things…which I always found to be pointless and generally pretty unfun as a kid.

I think the green one’s broken.
This yellow one is too. Wait, you mean I have to push myself?
Can’t we, like, hook a tow rope up to a ceiling fan or something?

She also got to play on their trampoline, which is rather austere in comparison to the bounty of bouncy that is the Get Air! trampoline park. (That’s where the girls are today, as a matter of fact.)

Hmm. Looks clinical.
Solid elasticity, though.
Actually, can I get some Hooke’s Law data before I commit to this?

She spent some time on the uneven bars…

Swing…
A, uh, side kip…
Twist! And now, big finish dismount…
Nailed it.

She climbed around on their foam blocks…

Note the “Get Air!” socks…
She’s standing in a perfect surfing/skateboard halfpipe drop-in stance here, adding even more credence to my assumptions about her being goofy-footed.

And worked a bit on her rhythmic hoop floor routine…

Still deciding whether it should be set to Claude Debussy’s “Claire de Lune…”
Or “Tom’s Diner” by Suzanne Vega

And finally, the balance beam…

Jen was pretty excited about how well Daphne took to all of these activities, and she said the vibe in there was super welcoming and friendly.

So it’s looking like some gymnastics lessons will be happening in the near future for our little girl. Which means Dad had better get back to work.

See you tomorrow.
