Flakes by the Foot

Hey there.

So Daphne is doing a little bit better. We thought she’d be okay to go to school today, but apparently she started coughing a lot once she got out into the cold air this morning. Then she staunchly refused to exit the car when Jen got her to the school parking lot. And since today was a half-day anyway, she just called it and brought Daphne back home.

As such, she’s been spending the day couching it for the most part.

Topo Chico & a monkey. Fabuloso.

This does, however, make day two of random vacillations between sitting quietly and listening to music vs. shrieking/whining at the top of her lungs. Which, as you might imagine, is driving me directly out of my mind as I’m trying to work in the room next door.

And we’ve got a weekend ahead to contend with.
Sigh.

Unfortunately, both Jen and I have started to get scratchy throats and develop a cough. So whatever it was that Daphne picked up from school it seems we’re about to ride it out as well. If it’s a flu variant then hopefully our vaccines will ease the symptoms a bit.

Regardless, I did make a quick trip to the grocery store for sickly provisions while I could.

You know, somehow my wife manages to ransack “The Choppah” and put together an entire week’s worth of meals for us for around $200. But I go in there alone for “a few days worth of stuff. You know, in case we’re stuck at home and/or the power goes out on Sunday…” and I’m like $330 lighter upon my exit.

Those chickens better start laying some damn eggs. Because if this inflation/grocery gouging keeps up then I’m takin’ those babies down to the street corner for a huevos hustle.

S’up. You want the good stuff? I got the pure homegrown $h** right here.

As for the storm (despite the weather alert klaxons telling us that the world is likely coming to an end), I’ll believe over a foot of snow when I see it.

My guess is we get another 5-7″ throughout Sunday which, I mean, obviously ain’t nothing. The plow just came through our driveway and we’re starting to get some decently sized whitewalls happening out there.

Hard to tell how tall this is…
So I took my boot off to give it some scale.
Then realized I’d have to hop around on one foot to get the picture.

And while we’re on the subject of weird gaits, I’m not looking forward to trudging through this one again tonight, since it snowed enough yesterday to mask all the footfalls again.

Treacherous.

I’m tempted to just wade through the left side and blaze an entirely new trail to the coop. We’ll see.

Okay, see you all next week.
