I noticed on Friday that we’d be in the viewing area for the aurora borealis this weekend.
Now in the past that forecast has guaranteed heavy clouds and/or rain, so we’d be unable to see anything at all. But not so this weekend…

Seeing the northern lights has been a bucket list thing for me for a very long time and I’ll level with you…
It just kinda looked like up-lit smog.
I stood outside in the dark for logner than I’d like to admit wondering if that grey foggy looking stuff was the northern lights or just a low cloud. It was only when I looked through my camera that the spectrum of colors in the sky became apparent.
Now, we were on the far southern edge of where it was supposed to be visible, so maybe it’s more vibrant and beautiful (sans camera) if you go farther north.
Still a very cool thing, but honestly a bit on the disappointing side from how I envisioned it.
In other wild color related news, we took Daphne to the local Wal-Mart this weekend to pick out a new comforter for her bed. (You’ll recall that the last one got trapped in the closet washer.)
She was absolutely, unequivocally certain about the one she wanted.

Yes. Teal and lavender tie-dye with mirrored/sparkly leopard spots. (Pretty sure that’s what Frank Lloyd Wright had on his bed too.)
She was so excited about it that she kept whapping it in the cart with her hands and laughing. Then, when we got back home, she carried it up the stairs herself so we could immediately put it on her bed.

And if she’s going to smile and laugh like that?
She can have anything she wants.
