Remedial Days

Given our concerns around all the accidents Daphne has been having, both at home and at school, we made the decision to keep her home today while we try to reinforce the whole “you must pee in the potty” thing.

Jen did activities with her all morning, and a short while ago we all went on a walk together around the property on my lunch break.

To see the fall goldenrod on the hill…

To bounce some tree branches…

And to check out our enormous sunflowers that, after two years of trying, are finally blooming.

Not so sure about this one, Dad.
Just kidding. They look great.

And she helped us water the ones that are growing out of the barrel/bucket thing.

Unfortunately, all this attention and play and encouragement?
Yeah, hasn’t worked.

She’s already had 2 accidents on the couch today, with undoubtedly more to come throughout the evening. She bit Jen, hard, as she was getting her dressed this morning. She’s been stomping her feet with such force that it shakes the windows in the entire house and disconnects the USB connections on my work computer. (This happens constantly.) Not to mention jumping into the air and slamming herself back down on the toilet, which is gonna end in in broken pipes if we can’t figure out how to make her stop.

Honestly, my patience is beginning to wane. And I’m struggling with not reacting angrily each time I’m in a meeting and someone has to say, “What? Sorry, you cut out again there…” while she shrieks and slams her heels down on the floor in the next room for maximum home rattling effect.

We’re getting to a point where we don’t know what to do, or how we can get through to her. And her anger levels are rising drastically too.

Today we questioned if we’ve hit the end of the era of her public schooling, and that we need enroll her into a specialized school for kids with autism. Honestly I don’t want that, but we’re getting to a point where it seems unfair of us to ask what we’re asking of a public school staff.

Certainly no decisions will be made today, while we’re all on edge, but it’s beginning to look more and more like that might be the best thing. For everyone.

Speaking of on edge, I need to get back to work.
