How to Thaw Chicken

As I mentioned yesterday, we’ve gotten our first significant snowfall of the season. And after dinner last night I was watching the local weather report where they were discussing what the “feels like” temperature would be this morning…

Chilly for chickies.

And so, as I sat comfortably on our couch next to a warm fire, farmer guilt began to creep in.

“Well, as long as you’re comfortable…”

And so, with a heavy sigh, out I trudged into the dark to run extension cords from our garage, through the snow, and into their coop.

I really should’ve used some electrical tape where I joined the cords…

And I’ll tell you, those ingrate chickens had the audacity to be surly with me when I opened the door to set up their heater. They burbled angrily and scattered all over the place.

That said, to me it looked like this…

“grumblegrumble, cold, grumblegrumble damn chickens…grumble”

But to them it probably looked like a wendigo had torn their roof off and was alternating between trying to strangle them with a cord or beat them with a strangely warm obelisk.

“Cold!”
“Damn chickens!”
“Okay, done. Good night, girls.”

They all did just fine, though. Everyone was happy this morning.

Although the weather folks were right, today has indeed been quite cold…

But no less lovely.

See you next week.
