Turn Back Time

Each year, when Daylight Savings Time ends, it reminds me of just how far north we live these days.

4:56pm

Our chickens all clamber into the coop by 5pm which, actually, that’s right about now.

Want to come out with me to put them in for the night?

Get in there, you dirty birds.

Sec, lemme get my coat…

Okay, let’s go.

As you can see, the new girls are doing pretty well. They’re taking themselves to bed at least, which saves me from chasing them in circles for 15 minutes before I can finally snatch a tailfeather and huck a little peeping ball through the coop door.

Okay “huck” is a strong word.
Let’s call it “unsympathetically nudge.”

What the hell kind of Hieronymus Bosch salmonella fever dream is this, AI? I said “picture of a chicken being thrown into its coop.”

Anyway, they’re all doing fine. They’re not quite confident enough to roost on the bar with the big girls yet, but they’re starting to pseudo-roost (i.e. sleep on the lip of the nesting boxes) which is pretty adorable.
Baby chicky steps.

Okay, see you tomorrow.
