Free and Fair and Fowl [Part Two]

[Part One can be found here]

I’ll start by saying this late post isn’t entirely on me. Apple was all screwy earlier today (odds are it had something to do with their upcoming iPhone), and so I couldn’t access any of this weekend’s pictures.

This from their System Outage page

Not having access to said pictures made writing this infinitely more difficult… But, now that everything seems to be working again, I’ll start filling in the blanks.

First, thank you all for the kind words about Barbara. We certainly miss her, and it seems like the other girls do as well.

Morose bunch of hens…

There’s been some talk the past couple days about the potential for replacement chicks…but right now it’s just talk.

So!

On Sunday, with us being journeyman homesteaders and all, we felt it behooved us (zang!) to go to the Caledonia County Fair to see the livestock.

And yes, Jen and I both agreed that if you’d told us 20 years ago that we’d be excited about seeing cows at the county fair we probably would’ve slapped you.

Aww. But look at how pretty these girls are…

I will say that Daphne wasn’t digging on the whole bovine thing, man…

“Are you ready to go?”
Yes!

But shortly thereafter we stumbled upon something that we know she likes…

“Now this…”
“This I am down with, Old Man.”

A solid 20 minutes was spent climbing, playing, bouncing, and sitting in these ATVs, with a look on her face that was equal parts patient and expectant.

Which prompted continued reassurances from her father that he is both well aware of how much she loves these things, and that he will figure out a way to get one for us…eventually.

Go! Go! Go! Drive it like you stole it!

Just not today.

Then, after we peeled her out of the ATV, we headed on to see the chickens and turkeys…

This Tom was puffed up and ready to battle anyone that got near the pen… All to protect his fair lady friend there behind the front post.

After which we happened upon the qualifying round of the demolition derby…which I can happily say was a first for both of the girls.

And then we took a stroll through the ol’ barmy carny barnyard…

In loving memory of BOO RAY, the likes of whom the world has never seen at the dart balloon pop.
Daphne was really into this swing ride. Sadly her parents would hurl like sprinkler toys if we attempted to ride it with her.
And this is where I picked up my sequined pink cowboy hat, gypsy pants, and “I <3 Sluts” t-shirt for my next work trip.

At which point it was time to head home for the day, and settle in ahead of tomorrow’s first day of school.

And that, I will say, has gone quite well so far. (*knocks wood*) But it’s getting late, so I’ll have to get into that tomorrow.

See you then.
